Wondrous Woven Cables

At last. Nancy Marchant's "Wondrous Woven Cables" from Arans & Celtics on its owner.

(Isn't he cute?)

The yarn is "Blueberry" Jo Sharp Tweed DK wool. I slightly adapted the pattern to knit it in the round. Originally started November 6, 2004, I made rapid progress through the rest of the month. But once I started the sleeves (both at the same time, in the round on two circulars), progress became slow and halting. I would put it down for months at a time, and then later have to spend an entire evening figuring out where I was (and where I was going).

Next sweater? I've been admiring YarnHarlot's gansey.

Very nice! The sweater is nice too. The neck band worked out well?

Great work! I'm trying to overcome my sweater phobia. Every time I see a fellow knitter's completed sweater, I try to tell myself, "I can do that, too!"

Sean, I overcame my sweater aversion with the help of Jacqueline Fee's The Sweater Workshop. A great book. Fee has you knit this fish-shaped thing which is easy and fun; in my case, it taught me more about knitting in one weekend than I'd learned over two years.

Alternatively, there's Beth Brown-Reinsel's Knitting Ganseys. That book walks you step-by-step in constructing a little sample sweater.

Give them a try.

Great looking sweater! And the model's not too shabby either...very cute in fact! I really have to find some yarn I like enough to make a sweater with. I might just have to go shopping this weekend!

I remember when you started this sweater - congratulations for getting it done so beautifully. Credit reciprocally from model to sweater and sweater to model - each smartens the other, ad infinitum ... lc2 aka Stash Fairy
